There is a lockdown at Joint Base Andrews after an unauthorized individual was observed with a rifle.
When an unauthorized person was observed strolling about the post with a rifle on Joint Base Andrews in Prince George's County on Thursday afternoon, the base was put on lockdown and all access was restricted.
A spokesperson for the base named Kylene Yumul said that she and other staff members were placed under lockdown, but that there had been no reports of injuries and no gunshots had been heard.
A notice was posted on Facebook by the military installation stating, "An armed man has been reported near base housing." Steer clear of the military housing." The message included a description of the individual, saying that they were "a white dude with an ar-15 type rifle with no orange tip while wearing purple shorts and a black sweater."
Yumul said that she did not have any more information on the individual who was holding the firearm. Air Force One calls the airfield at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, located in the United States, its home airport.
