YouTube TV is giving subscribers a $20 credit as consolation for the Disney blackout

YouTube TV has announced that it will issue a $20 credit to subscribers impacted by the ongoing dispute with Disney — a standoff that has caused several major channels, including ESPN, ABC News, and Disney Channel, to go dark on the platform.

In an email sent to users, YouTube TV said subscribers can expect a message in the coming days with details on how to redeem the credit. Once claimed, it will automatically apply to their next billing cycle.

“We know it’s been disappointing to lose Disney content, and we want you to know we deeply appreciate your patience,” the company said in its statement.

YouTube TV and Disney had a deadline of October 30 to reach a new agreement regarding Disney’s content rights, but the date passed without a deal. Negotiations are reportedly still ongoing. The platform emphasized that it’s working in good faith to restore the channels, saying: “We’ve been negotiating to pay Disney fairly for their content and bring it back to YouTube TV as soon as possible.”

For frustrated subscribers, YouTube TV reminded users that they can pause their subscription temporarily while negotiations continue.

Although the $20 credit doesn’t fully compensate for the loss of Disney content, it’s a welcome gesture from the streaming service as it continues to navigate the competitive and often tense world of digital TV rights.
